LandXML

Although, it has been around since Land Desktop Release 2i as an extension (this was version 0.88) and Land Desktop 3.01 in its current version (version 1.0) LandXML is not often the first solution users think of when it is necessary to transfer data between different applications, or between different offices or users.

LandXML is a non-proprietary data standard created by a consortium of industry partners.

It can be used for any of the following:

1. To transfer data from a supported software application to another supported application (like LDt to Civil 3D).

2. To archive data at important milestones.

3. To convert data from imperial units to metric or vice versa.

4. To globally translate/rotate coordinates.

Hello Angel,

I found your blog from Yahoo while searching for info on LandXML.
I am trying to build some MS Access modules to import LandXML data files into Access tables. I have studied Microsofts MSXML routines in VB, and had some limited success with ordinary XML files, but none with LandXML. The problem is that I don't understand MSXML and the LandXML files seem to complex.
Do you have any routines that would help me parse the LandXML files? Or maybe you know of a link to something that would help me?

I would start with www.LandXML.org. There you will find a lot of information regarding the schema for 1.0 and 1.1. There are Instructional Videos that you can watch and sample datasets that you can use.

I am not aware of any utilities that currently use LandXML.

Lastly, if you use the Contact page at LandXML.org you can email them directly with questions.
